USArtists International (Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation)

Jazz.NEXT (Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation)

Jazz.NEXT is a new national jazz initiative designed to encourage the application of technology in substantive and innovative approaches to developing audiences; communicating with the public; marketing, distributing, and selling the work of jazz artists; and building a more robust jazz infrastructure better positioned to meet current and future challenges.

Jazz.NEXT supports project planning and the implementation of fully developed plans that incorporate innovative uses of new technologies towards audience development, communications, distribution, marketing, and network building. The program also convenes annual meetings among grant recipients to share information on planning and project development. Findings will be disseminated through case studies to a broad array of jazz stakeholders.

First round grantees included: National Federation of Community Broadcasters (“NFCB”), Oakland, CA, Planning Grant: $32,800; Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey, CA, Implementation Grant: $98,300; National Public Radio (“NPR”), Washington, DC, Implementation Grant: $98,300; Savannah Music Festival, Savannah, GA, Implementation Grant: $97,600; and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN, Implementation Grant: $97,900.

The Jazz.NEXT program is made possible through a $1 million grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

These exhibitions were presented in major cultural institutional as well as small rural communities and represented a full range of art forms and cultural explorations. They also inspired over 1,000 associated community events such as lectures, workshops, and performances.

National Dance Project

The National Dance Project (NDP) provides a system of support for the living, growing discipline of contemporary dance, by supporting the production and distribution of dance in the United States . NDP views touring as central to the vitality of dance as an art form, and structures its granting process to link the creation and touring of new work. Through the dedicated efforts of dance presenters across the country, NDP helps audiences connect with the rich and varied talents of choreographers and their companies.
